The 289A gene has been identified by Bergsagel et al (1992) in a search for genes expressed in murine plasmacytomas, but not B or pre-B lymphomas. Sequence comparison shows that the predicted protein is the murine homolog of CD326, demonstrating that expression of the corresponding protein is not restricted to epithelial cells and that the protein is a B-lymphocyte differentiation antigen. The authors have proposed the name EGP314 [panepithelial glycoprotein 314] for the encoded protein ("because of the multiplicity of names").
