The gene encoding this protein has been identified by Nalabolu et al (1996) as a homolog of murine B144 located in a 220 kb region around the TNF gene cluster in the human central major histocompatibility complex region. It is expressed in spleen and thymus, and prominently in the macrophage cell line U937. The sequence is identical with NKp30.
