This type of cell is found in the epithelium of the cornea. Wing cells make up two or three rows of cells located between a layer of basal cells (which are adjacent to the basement membrane) and layers of squamous cells (superficial cells) near the surface (Beuerman and Pedroza, 1996; Hay, 1979; Zinn et al, 1975).
