uroguanylin

abbr. UGN. Uroguanylin is a small peptide that exists in variants of 13, 14, and 15 amino acids derived from a larger precursor (Hamra et al, 1993, 1996; Li et al, 1997; Kita et al, 1994). These peptides contain four conserved cysteines. Uroguanylin was isolated initially from opossum (QEDCELCINVACTGC) urine as an activity that stimulates cGMP production in T84 intestinal cells (Hamra et al, 1993, 1996). The bioactive peptide is located at the carboxyterminus of a larger precursor (Hill et al, 1995; Fan et al, 1996; Miyazato et al, 1996). The protein is structurally related to Guanylin and Lymphoguanylin. The gene is being referred to as guanylate cyclase activator 2A [ ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
