abbr. uta. This Drosophila melanogaster gene (gene: CG10233) has been identified by Franc et al (2007). The protein is involved in the engulfment of apoptotic cells. and undertaker mutants show defects in phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. Cuttell et al (2008) have reported that Undertaker is required for phagocytosis mediated by the CED1 homolog Draper and links phagocytosis and calcium homeostasis.
