This peptide with the sequence NKNPFLFGSNR (Asn-Lys-Asn-Pro-Phe-Leu-Phe-Gly-Ser-Asn-Arg) corresponds to the N-terminal end of a 22-amino acid peptide that has been identified in a tryptic digest of soy beta-conglycinin by virtue of its ability to stimulate ghrelin secretion by the ghrelin-producing cell line, MGN3-1. The peptide is derived from the alpha subunit of beta-conglycinin that corresponds to betaCG-alpha(192-213) [beta-conglycinin-alpha(192-213)]. Orally administered soy-ghretropin increased plasma ghrelin levels and food intake in vivo.
