abbr. SF. Human serum spreading factor is a blood glycoprotein. Two native forms are seen in human serum (SF65, 65 kDa and SF75, 75 kDa) (Barnes and Silnutzer, 1983).
Serum spreading factor promotes attachment and spreading and influences growth, migration, and differentiation of a variety of animal cells in culture (Barnes et al, 1980) (see also: motogenic cytokines). The use of monoclonal antibodies has shown that serum spreading factor is present also at the cell surface and in tissues.
