renoguanylin

abbr. RGN (a term with multiple meanings). This hormone, ADLCEICAFAACTGCL (Ala-Asp-Leu-Cys-Glu-Ile-Cys-Ala-Phe-Ala-Ala-Cys-Thr-Gly-Cys-Leu), has been identified in Anguilla japonica (Japanese eel). It is expressed in intestinal and specially kidney tissues (Yuge et al, 2003). The peptide possesses characteristics of both guanylin and uroguanylin and is expressed abundantly in the kidney and may have osmoregulatory functions. Yuge et al (2006) have identified transmembrane Guanylyl cyclase C as a possible receptor.
