[oblivious] Obl mice are mutant mice with an N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea-induced nonsense mutation of CD36 (Hoebe et al, 2005).
These mice have a reduced response to specific TLR2 ligands, lipoteichoic acids and MALP-2 [macrophage activating lipoprotein-2], but respond normally to the synthetic lipopeptides, Pam3CSK4 and Pam2CSK4, demonstrating that some, but not all TLR2 ligands depend on CD36. These animals are also unable to clear Staphylococcus aureus and show higher mortality compared to C57BL/6 wild-type mice. They are also more prone to develop abscesses (Stuart et al, 2005).
