from lumen + autocrine, similarly to other terms such as autocrine, paracrine, juxtacrine, intracrine, endocrine.

Originally the term lumicrine was used to refer to a mode of action of bioactive peptides produced and stored by neurons and endocrine cells for regulated secretion in specialized organelles called secretory granules or large dense-core vesicles act in an autocrine manner as intracellular signalling molecules that establish communication from the lumen of the secretory pathway to the nucleus (Schiller MR et al 1997). Defined as such, this term may be regarded as a specialised case of what other authors have called intracrine signalling.
