[lonely heart] This Drosophila melanogaster gene is encoded by gene CG6232. The protein is a member of the ADAMTS protein family. Loh acts in concert with the collagen Prc [Pericardin]. Both proteins are integral components of the cardiac extracellular matrix mediating cellular adhesion between the cardiac tube and the pericardial cells. Loss of either loh or prc causes progressive cardiac damage peaking in the abolishment of heart function and causing a reduction of the fly's life span. Loh acts as a secreted receptor for Prc and works as a crucial determinant to allow the formation of a cell and tissue-specific extracellular matrix (Drechsler et al, 2013).
