[left-right determination factor 2] This human gene has been identified by Meno et al (1996, 1997). The gene has been termed also Lefty A [left-right determination factor A] (Kosaki et al, 1999). Lefty-2 is a secreted member of the TGF-beta family of growth factors. It is involved in the determination of left-right asymmetry determined early during development and is expressed on the left side of developing embryos.

Lefty-2 is identical with EBAF [Endometrial bleeding associated factor] and is being referred to also as TGF-beta-4.
