[interphase death]
this term has been used extensively in literature about radiation-induced cell death, but is observed also after treatment with UV light or chemicals. Affected cells do not undergo further cell divisions. Thus this term refers to the immediate death of cells occurring after the insult in cells that were not proliferating at the time of the insult. As such the term simply refers to the time course and position of the cell cycle at which cell death occurs. The term does not suggest per se any mechanism underlying cell death but cell death is thought to involve any of the different apoptotic pathways. This type of cell death
