These cells, called also interdigitating cells or interdigitating dendritic cells, are characterized and identified mainly by interdigitating cytoplasmic surface projections and some other ultrastructural characteristics (Fries et al, 1976; Kaiserling et al, 1974; Rausch et al, 1977). The cells express S100 (Takahashi et al, 1981, Nakajima et al, 1982; Higley and Rowden, 1984), IL1 (Hsu and Zhao, 1987), Fc-gamma receptors (Müller-Hermelink HK, Schwarting, 1981), CD45 (Ruco et al, 1989), CD4 (Ruco et al, 1989), HLA-DR (Ruco et al, 1989), CD25 (Ruco et al, 1989), and CD71
