Holotricins are antimicrobial peptides isolated from the hemolymph of immunized larvae of the coleopteran insect Holotrichia diomphalia. Holotricin-1 (VTCDLLSLQIKGIAINDSACAAHCLAMRRKGGSCKQGVCVCRN) is a sapecin homolog. It shows potent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, but considerably less antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria (Lee et al, 1995). Holotricin-2 (72 amino acids) inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria (Lee et al, 1994). The protein shows 99 % sequence identity with protaetin-1, 77.8 % sequence identity with rhinocerosin, and high sequence similarity with acaloleptin A1. Holotricin-3
