This general term refers (also: guidance factor, guidance molecule) to any kind of factor that has the ability to act as a chemoattractant or chemorepellent for various cell types. Factors that act as chemorepellents are sometimes called negative guidance cues (see also: fugetaxis).
Guidance cues for neurons help neurons to find their correct target cells - a process referred to as axon guidance or axon pathfinding
