This protein, known also as Delta-like homolog 1 or delta-like 1 homolog, was identified initially as a cDNA differentially expressed in Swiss 3T3-L1 cells in response to treatment with GRP (Gastrin releasing peptide) (Laborda et al, 1993). It was isolated subsequently as a cDNA expressed selectively in fetal liver stromal cells (AFT024) but not in 2018 cells. dlk possesses several copies of an EGF-like repeat
