abbr. CIF (a term with multiple meanings). A biochemically uncharacterized glycoprotein factor of approximately 30 kDa secreted by human B-chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells in vitro and found also in the serum of CLL patients (Siegbahn et al, 1985, 1986, 1987).
Resting normal B-lymphocytes from blood and spleen have the capacity to produce CIF spontaneously. CIF inhibits migration of human neutrophils (see also: Chemotaxis) and CIF receptors have been detected on neutrophils.
