abbr. bPaAP. A strong antimicrobial activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms has been isolated from the stomach of the bullfrog, Rana catesbeiana. This peptide (GVVKVSRLKGDSLRARL) is derived from the N-terminal sequences of pepsinogen A prosequence. The peptide may act as a defense peptide that contributes to the antimicrobial function of the gastrointestinal mucosa of vertebrates, including humans.
