also: immunoglobulin-producing cells. These cells are lymphoid cells (B-cells) that produce immunoglobulins (see also: plasma cells). Subpopulations of these cells can be defined according to different classes of immunoglobulins that they synthesize. Thus, the major types are being referred to also as IgA cells, IgD cells, IgE cells, IgG cells, IgM cells. Different subclasses exist for IgG (IgG1, IgG2, IgG3 and IgG4) and for IgA (IgA1 and IgA2) and the cells may be named accordingly.
