This name has been given by Yi and Rioslahti (2001) to a fragment of fibronectin which corresponds to a 76 amino acid peptide, III1-C (fibronectin(630-704); abbr. FN(630-704)), which is derived from the carboxy-terminal first type III repeat in fibronectin (fibronectin III1-C peptide). This fragment is an anti-angiogenic and antimetastatic agent and has been shown to inhibit tumor growth, angiogenesis, and metastasis.
Yi et al (2003) have shown that Anastellin is unable to inhibit matrigel plug angiogenesis in mice that lack plasma fibronectin
