[viable c-Kit-deficient] This term refers to a viable mutant mouse strain with a mutation in the Kit gene, which is the receptor for SCF [stem cell factor]. These mice have been identified after outcrossing kit mutant mice of the WB strain, in which lack of kit is lethal, to a mixed genetic background (Waskow et al, 2002). They do not succumb to perinatal death caused by defects in hematopoiesis like other mice lacking expression of the SCF receptor kit.
