abbr. VASH. The cDNA for this factor (365 amino acids) has been identified independently as KIAA1036 by Kikuno et al (1999). Watanabe et al (2004) have named the factor Vasohibin. The factor has been renamed vasohibin-1 (approved gene symbol VASH1), following the identification of Vasohibin-2. The vasohibin gene is expressed in a variety of tissues and is upregulated in endothelial cells by VEGF. The expression of a suitable antisense oligonucleotide restores the responsiveness of endothelial cells to a higher concentration of VEGF. Hypoxia or TNF-alpha abrogate the inducible expression of Vasohibin.
