[Vaccinia virus B1 kinase] This protein is encoded in the genome of Vaccinia virus (Howard and Smith, 1989). It has been shown to be a 34 kDa serine-threonine kinase (Bantham and Smith, 1992; Lin et al, 1992).
Vaccinia virus B1R protein is an essential protein expressed at early times after infection and encapsidated at low levels in nascent virions. Mutations which disrupt the kinase activity reduce the production of infectious virus (Banham and Smith, 1992; Lin et al, 1992; Rempel and Traktman, 1992; Boyle and Traktman, 2004).
The cytosolic dsDNA sensor BANF1 [Barrier to autointegration factor 1] acts as a potent inhibitor of virus replication unless its DNA binding activity is blocked by the virus-encoded kinase (Wiebe and Traktman, 2007). BANF1
