This bioactive peptide corresponds to CETPI(474-491) [Cholesteryl ester transfer protein isoform (474-491)], derived from the C-terminus of the Lipid transfer protein I (CETP [Cholesteryl ester transfer protein]) isoform CETPI that lacks exon 16, and 54 bases contained in intron 15 and is expressed specifically in enterocytes (Alonso et al, 2003).
The peptide is not cytotoxic at higher concentrations and has been shown to bind LPS and to prevent cytotoxic effects of LPS in macrophages. The peptide prevents the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In a rabbit model of septic shock
