VEGF-183b

[Vascular endothelial growth factor-183b] another designation is VEGF-A183b [Vascular endothelial growth factor A183b]. The terms VEGF(xxx)b and VEGF(xxx) refer to splice isoforms of VEGF (VEGF-A). VEGF-183b is an isoform of VEGF-183 (itself an isoform of VEGF) that lacks sequences from exon 8a (see: VEGF-A for explanation and nomenclature). Unlike VEGF-183, which promotes angiogenesis, VEGF-183b is an anti-angiogenic splice isoform (Qiu et al, 2009).
