[VEGF-A111] [Vascular endothelial growth factor-111] a splice variant of VEGF (VEGF-A) (exons 1-4, 8) that lacks the sequence encoded by exons 5-7. This isoform is expressed by various cell types in response to UV-B radiation and genotoxic stess. VEGF-111 has been shown to be resistant to proteolysis by plasmin. The factor is biologically active and induces receptor phosphorylation, induces an angiogenic phenotype in embryoid bodies derived frommouse embryonic stem cells, and induces vascularization in vivo. The mitogenic and chemotactic activities of VEGF-111 are similar to that of VEGF-165 and VEGF-121
