[UNC-112 related protein 2 short form] This conserved protein contains a FERM domain and a PH domain. The protein is expressed primarily in cells of the immune system. Over-expression of URP2SF strongly represses NF-kappa-B activity in the absence or presence of NF-kappa-B stimulus and also induces cell death by apoptosis. Suppression of URP2SF expression activates NF-kappa-B and attenuates TNF-alpha induced apoptosis (Wang et al, 2008).
The gene has been isolated originally by Weinstein et al (2003) based on homology with URP1, [UNC-112 related protein] and therefore named URP2 [UNC-112 related protein 2].
