[transducer of erbB2 2] Tob2 (344 amino acids) is a member of the BTG protein family with antiproliferative functions. The protein shows high similarity to the Tob protein. The mouse gene has been cloned by Ajima et al (2000). The cDNA has been identified independently as KIAA1663. tob2 mRNA is ubiquitous in human adult tissues but expressed most abundantly in oocytes. Like the Tob protein, Tob2 inhibits cell cycle progression from the G0/G1 to S phases. The tob2 gene maps to human chromosome 22q13.1-q13.31.
