TRIM56

(approved gene symbol) [Tripartite motif-containing protein 56] A databank synonym for this protein is RNF109 [RING finger protein 109].

This protein, a member of a large family of proteins containing a tripartite motif, has been identified by Tsuchida et al (2010). TRIM56 acts as a regulator of double-stranded DNA-mediated type 1 interferon induction. Overexpression of TRIM56 enhances IFN-beta promoter activation after double-stranded DNA stimulation, which is abrogated by knock-down of TRIM56 expression. The induction of IFN-beta expression by TRIM56 involves ubiquination of STING [stimulator of interferon genes ... ... ... ...
