[transmembrane protein 100] TMEM100 (134 amino acids) is an intracellular transmembrane protein identified by Somekawa et al (2012) It is enriched in the embryonic endothelium activated by BMP9 and BMP10 through the ACVRL1 receptor. TMEM100 may play an indispensable roles downstream of BMP9 / BMP10 - ACVRL1 signaling during endothelial differentiation and vascular morphogenesis. TMEM100 knock-out mice show embryonic lethality owing to impaired differentiation of arterial endothelium and defects of vascular morphogenesis, which phenocopy most of the vascular abnormalities observed with the ACVRL1
