[TRAF family member-associated NF-kappa-B activator] TANK has been identified as an intracellular protein mediating activation of transcription factor NF-kappa-B following signaling through the surface receptors CD40 and TNF receptor 2. TANK is known also as I-TRAF (Cheng G and Baltimore D, 1996).
TANK interacts with several members of the TRAF protein family and forms complexes with TRAF1, TRAF2, and TRAF3. These complexes then mediate activation of the transcription factor. Rothe et al (1996) have reported that overexpression of TANK inhibits NF-kappa-B
