approved gene symbol: SBSN. Suprabasin is a secreted protein identified originally as a gene involved in the differentiation of cutaneous stem cells (Park et al, 2002). Suprabasin is located subcellularly in vesicles and secreted to the extracellular region (Moffatt et al, 2004).
The protein is expressed in stratified epithelial cells of skin and esophagus (Matsui et al, 2004). Suprabasin expression has been shown to be induced by 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate (Park et al, 2002) and IFN-gamma (Hubackova et al, 2019).
