[sheep myeloid antimicrobial peptide-29] SMAP-29 is an ovine cationic alpha-helical peptide (RGLRRLGRKIAHGVKKYGPTVLRIIRIAG; Arg-Gly-Leu-Arg-Arg-Leu-Gly-Arg-Lys-Ile-Ala-His-Gly-Val-Lys-Lys-Tyr-Gly-Pro-Thr-Val-Leu-Arg-Ile-Ile-Arg-Ile-Ala-Gly) belonging to the family cathelicidins identified in sheep myeloid cells (Bagella et al, 1995). It is being referred to also as Cathelin-related peptide SC5. The sequence has been deduced from sheep myeloid mRNA (Skerlavaj et al, 1999).
