SIFamides are a group of highly conserved neuropeptides found in arthropods, nematodes, molluscs, annelids (Verleyen et al, 2004, 2009; Jékely, 2013; Mirabeau and Joly, 2013; Veenstra, 2010, 2011; Christie et al, 2011). In insects, SIFamides are prominent in holometabolous species, i.e., those with a complete metamorphosis, and have not been found in hemimetabolous insects.
