[streptococcal inhibitor of complement-mediated lysis] This protein (273 amino acids) is expressed and secreted by the human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes serotypes M1 and M57 (Akesson et al, 1996). Binks et al (2005) have reported that CRS57, which is found in M57 strains closely resembles SIC from M1 strains and has a functional role similar to that of SIC in M1 strains.
