This murine stromal cell line has been stablished from the adherent layer of Dexter-type long-term bone marrow cultures (Collins and Dorshkind, 1987). The cells express class 1 histocompatibility antigens but not other hematopoietic cell surface determinants such as Thy1, Lyt1, Ig, Ia, Mac-1, or BP-1.
Under suitable culture conditions, these cells can support myelopoiesis and the differentiation of early precursors of B-cells into B-lymphocytes when seeded with cells obtained from bone marrow (see also bone marrow culture).
