Riparins

Riparins are a family of antimicrobial peptides isolated from the skin of the Australian Streambank Froglet Crinia riparia (Maselli et al, 2006). Five of these peptides are neuropeptides containing intramolecular disulfide linkages. The major peptide is riparin 1.4 (FFLPPCAYKGTC-OH).

Riparin 2.1 (IIEKLVNTALGLLSGLamide) has been shown to be a narrow-spectrum antibiotic peptide. Signiferin 3.1 (GIAEFLNYIKSKAamide) has been shown to act as an nNOS inhibitor. Riparin 5.1 (IVSYPDDAGEHAHKMGamide) does not appear to possess neuropeptide, antibiotic or nNOS activity.
