[Rinderpest virus phosphoprotein protein] This nonstructural protein is encoded by Rinderpest virus (RPV), a paramyxovirus closely related to the human pathogen Measles virus. The protein contributes to immune evasion. It binds to the signal transducer STAT1 and prevents the action of both type 1 interferon (IFN-alpha) and type 2 interferon (IFN-gamma) (Nanda and Baron, 2006).
