[Rhesus-associated polypeptide 50 kDa a] This protein is part of a multisubunit complex carrying the Rh blood group antigens and appears to account for most cases of Rhesus blood group deficiency (Cherif-Zahar et al, 1996, 1998). The term Rh50 is a generic term for heterogeneously glycosylated membrane proteins of 50 and 45 kDa, the Rh50 glycoproteins, which are coprecipitated with other polypeptides of approximately 30 kDa on immunoprecipitation with anti-Rh-specific antibodies, but it is used also synonymously with Rh50a.
The cDNA encoding the Rh50a glycoprotein has been cloned by Ridgwell et al (1992). The intron/exon structure of the corresponding gene has been determined by Huang (1998). The protein is involved in ammonium uptake in
