RPSA
[ribosomal protein SA; 40S ribosomal protein SA; 40S RPSA] This unglycosylated ribosomal protein is required for the assembly and/or stability of the 40S ribosomal subunit (see also: Kenmochi et al, 1998). RPSA has been shown also to interact with another ribosomal protein, RPS21 (Sato et al, 1999).
Role as moonlighting protein
Apart from its role in ribosome biogenesis, RPSA has other functions and thus can be regarded as a member of a growing group of proteins referred to as moonlighting proteins.
