[Ribonucleases with special biological action] A general term for ribonucleases with non-catalytic activities such as in Angiogenin and Lactogenin. Other members are selectively neurotoxic RNases, seminal RNAases such as bovine seminal ribonuclease, a lectin, and the self-incompatibility factors from a flowering plant. Some of the factors are involved in host defence and angiogenesis or possess antitumor activities (D'Alessio et al, 1993).
