[regulator of G-protein signaling 4] This protein is involved in the regulation of heterotrimeric G-protein-coupled receptors. The human and rat genes, which are highly conserved, have been cloned by Druey et al (1996), who reported that human RGS4 is expressed exclusively in brain.
Albig and Schiemann (2005) have reported an involvement of RGS4 in tubulogenesis by epithelial cells. RGS4 selectively inhibits G-protein and VEGF signaling in endothelial cells and has no effects of TGF-beta or BMP7 pathways.
