[regulated in development and DNA damage response 2] The approved gene symbol is DDIT4L [DNA damage-inducible transcript 4-like]. The gene is being referred to also as RTP801L [RTP801-like].
This protein is related to REDD1 (50 % overall identity) (Ellisen et al, 2002). Cuaz-Perolin et al (2004) have shown that stimulation of REDD2 expression in macrophages increases cell death induced by oxidized LDL and/or conditions of hypoxia. Imen et al (2009) have reported that REDD2 mediates human monocyte cell death through a reduction in thioredoxin-1 expression.
