The peptide QPTRRPRPGTGPGRRPRPRPRP (Gln-Pro-Thr-Arg-Arg-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Thr-Gly-Pro-Gly-Arg-Arg-Pro-Arg-Pro-Arg-Pro-Arg-Pro) is derived from the heparin-binding region of PRELP [proline/arginine-rich end leucine-rich repeat protein] (Malmsten et al, 2006). It corresponds to PRELP(1-22). The peptide possesses antimicrobial activities against the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as against the Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis. The peptide is not hemolytic for erythrocytes and has no membrane permeabilising effects on human epithelial cells.
