The peptide QPTRRPRPGTGPGRRPRPRPRP is derived from the heparin-binding region of PRELP [proline/arginine-rich end leucine-rich repeat protein] (Malmsten et al, 2006). The peptide possesses antimicrobial activities against the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as against the Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis. The peptide is not hemolytic for erythrocytes and has no membrane permeabilising effects on human epithelial cells.
