Pyrokinins are a widely distributed family of neuropeptides / neurohormones found in several insect orders comprising more than 200 peptides from over 50 species (Jurenka and Nusawardani, 2011).
The first pyrokinin peptide, termed leucopyrokinin (abbr. LPK; having a pyroglutamate at its N-terminal end: pQTSFTPRLamide; Glp-Thr-Ser-Phe-Thr-Pro-Arg-Leuamide), was isolated from the cockroach Leucophaea maderae Holman et al, 1986.
