Pyrokinins
Pyrokinins are a widely distributed family of neuropeptides / neurohormones found in several insect orders comprising more than 200 peptides from over 50 species (Jurenka and Nusawardani, 2011).
The first pyrokinin peptide, termed leucopyrokinin (abbr. LPK; having a pyroglutamate at its N-terminal end: pQTSFTPRLamide; Glp-Thr-Ser-Phe-Thr-Pro-Arg-Leuamide), was isolated from the cockroach Leucophaea maderae Holman et al, 1986. Other pyrokinins have been isolated from the locust Locusta migratoria (Schoofs et al, 1990, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993) (termed locustapyrokinin and locustamyotropins
