[placenta growth factor, Placental growth factor; abbr. also PGF] This factor was isolated initially as a cDNA from a human placenta cDNA library. PlGF is expressed also in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. The cDNA encodes a protein of 149 amino acids, which displays 51 % sequence identity with a sequence domain of VPF (vascular permeability factor). The protein shows an overall amino acid identity with PDGF of less than 30 %, but the eight cysteine residues of the mature portions of the PDGF chains are perfectly conserved in PlGF (and VEGF
