Parasin-1

This peptide of 19 amino acids (KGRGKQGGKVRAKAKTRSS) is secreted into the epithelial mucosal layer in response to epidermal injury by catfish (Parasilurus asotus) (Park et al, 1998). 18/19 residues in parasin-1 are identical to the N-terminal sequence of buforin-1, a 39-residue antimicrobial peptide derived from the N-terminal of toad histone H2A. Parasin-1 also shares 89 % homology with the N-terminal of human histone H2A.5

The peptide corresponds to histone H2A(1-19) and is generated by cleavage of unacetylated histone H2A at Ser19-Arg20 by Cathepsin D, which exists in the mucus as an inactive proenzyme that is activated by the metalloprotease ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
