[protein related to DAN and cerberus] This gene has been identified by gene trapping in embryonic stem cells. It encodes a secretory protein of 168 amino acids that is related to the BMP antagonists DAN and cerberus and has a cystine knot as a structural feature. The gene is expressed in commissural neurons in the developing spinal cord (Minabe-Saegusa et al, 1998). The protein is identical with Gremlin-2, which has been shown to act as an antagonist for bone morphogenetic proteins.
Ideno et al (2009) have reported that the PRDC gene shows elevated expression after treatment of osteoblasts with BMP2
