this Drosophila melanogaster ovulation hormone is encoded by gene CG8982 (previously: Mst26Aa [male-specific transcript 26Aa] and described originally as msP 355a [male-specific transcript 355a]) (Monsma and Wolfner, 1988; Monsma et al, 1990). It is a male accessory gland protein known also as Acp26Aa [accessory gland peptide 26Aa] and transferred during mating to females, where it can be found in the hemolymph (Monsma SA et al, 1990). Ovulin stimulates the release of eggs from the ovary during the first 24 hours after mating (Heifetz et al, 2000).
